18th Century Directoire Period Portrait of a Man

May 20, 2017

A very fine late 18th century Directoire Period portrait of a gentleman, with powdered hair and wearing a ruffled shirt with coral waistcoat under a brown coat. The coral waistcoat, unusual for this post-revolutionary period, was an indication that he was awarded the French Order of the Legion of Honour.  Oil on canvas in period frame.  France, circa 1795.
